JOB OVERVIEW

This position involves leading a team of technicians in the performance of environmental services support, including a variety of cleaning tasks such as stripping and waxing floors, cleaning carpets, setting fire places, moving furniture, conducting trash removal and cleaning and maintaining equipment, in addition to occasionally setting up rooms for events in the Senate wing of the U.S. Capitol building. This person must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills and have the ability to motivate others, resolve conflicts and address complex task-related problems in a fast-paced work environment. This is highly sensitive work requiring superior etiquette and professionalism. The role requires interaction with Senate offices, as well as several supporting departments. Work is performed under the general direction of a supervisor.

Key Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties

Assigns tasks to team members and checks on tasks. Completes inspections on Senate side of Capitol building to ensure cleanliness, including the removal of trash. Monitors compliance with department policies, dress code, personal protective equipment, and safety; and refers problems to the Facilities Services Supervisor. Sets up rooms for meetings, conferences, and banquets. Loads and unloads trucks; duties may include driving a truck. Fills-in as needed in the absence of the Facilities Services Supervisor. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required Education

High school diploma (or GED).

Required Work Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience setting up events, moving furniture, and/or office cleaning.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • If assigned to drive the truck, a valid driver’s license is required.

Working Conditions

  • Work requires frequent physical effort walking, bending, crawling, and standing for long durations.
  • Heavy lifting (carrying of items more than 50 pounds).
  • Work exposes the employee to hazardous materials (cleaning chemicals) and biohazard materials (blood, pathogens)/OPIM (other potentially infectious material).
  • Work requires employee to wear uniforms (or gloves or other protective equipment besides a respirator).
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during a lapse, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
