Job Summary:

The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgery across various specialties including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Vascular, ENT, Ophthalmology, Urology, Endoscopy, and Gynecology. The role involves direct patient care for neonate through geriatric populations, management of surgical environments, sterile technique, and collaboration with surgical teams to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes. The RN must demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, surgical equipment, and emergency procedures while maintaining strict adherence to surgical and infection control standards.

Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 patient care throughout the perioperative period including pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases.
• Perform circulating duties including emergency management and priority setting within the operating room.
• Properly open, handle, and transfer sterile items and solutions to the sterile field, ensuring correct labeling and aseptic technique.
• Perform and document all surgical counts according to established protocols.
• Oversee flash sterilization processes, ensuring sterility and proper documentation.
• Handle, document, and label surgical specimens and cultures accurately.
• Order, handle, and administer blood products and related blood work safely.
• Operate mechanical, electrical, and powered surgical equipment according to manufacturer's guidelines.
• Continuously communicate patient condition and surgical progress with surgeons and anesthesiologists.
• Maintain compliance with surgical standards, universal precautions, and departmental procedures.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of New York.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of operating room nursing experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to scrub and circulate during surgical procedures.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with a wide range of surgical specialties including Orthopedics, Vascular, and Endoscopy.
• Knowledge of anesthetic drugs, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, spinal and epidural catheters.
• Familiarity with surgical specimen handling and blood product administration.

Special Considerations:

• Must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Weekend shifts are from 7 AM to 3 PM.
• Required to scrub and circulate during surgeries.
• Must disclose any return-to-office (RTO) restrictions prior to submission; no post-offer RTO accommodations.

Scheduling:

• Day shift hours from 7 AM to 5 PM.
• Guaranteed 35 hours per week after breaks.
• Shift duration approximately 6 weeks to cover vacation period.
