Job Summary:

The GIS Governance Coordinator is responsible for establishing, improving, and managing enterprise GIS governance practices within the organization. This role leads initiatives related to inventory management, workforce role and skills standardization, data lifecycle governance, and special projects to ensure consistent, high-quality GIS data management. The coordinator supports strategic planning and continuous improvement of GIS governance aligned with business objectives.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain documentation related to GIS governance.
  • Facilitate cross-department coordination to ensure consistent adoption of governance practices.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and briefings for leadership and governance committees.
  • Support enterprise GIS strategic planning and continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead initiatives focused on inventory, workforce role and skills standardization, and data lifecycle governance.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of GIS principles, data management, and enterprise GIS environments (8 years).
  • Understanding of data governance concepts including stewardship, lifecycle management, metadata, and data quality (8 years).
  • Ability to manage complex projects, engage stakeholders, and coordinate cross-functional teams (8 years).
  • Strong skills in research, analytical thinking, workflow documentation, and process design (8 years).
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing governance documents and presenting technical findings to nontechnical audiences (8 years).
  • Experience with GIS technologies such as Esri tools, enterprise geodatabases, and spatial data services (8 years).
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with geospatial governance or enterprise data governance programs.
  • Familiarity with transportation data domains.
  • Experience developing skill frameworks or role competency models for technical disciplines.
Special Considerations:
  • Candidate must demonstrate working governance experience; this is not a standard GIS Analyst or Manager role.
  • Candidate must physically reside within the United States for the duration of the assignment in compliance with security policies.
Scheduling:
  • Assignment duration from July 20, 2026, to June 30, 2027.
  • Interview process includes both webcam and in-person interviews.
